Tell us about yourself as a professional. Do you have a special interest or area of expertise,
unusual background or experience, or a topic or skill you’re working to get better at?

I got my bachelor’s in marketing and my MBA in business analytics, so I am really interested in the analytics field. I have worked in Product Management on the carrier side for about 6 years now and I love using data to solve problems across the company or just explore our current processes to make efficiencies. Data driven decision making is huge now and I pride myself on the skills necessary to do that.

Why are you passionate about working in insurance and/or risk management?

I think the younger generation isn't as into insurance as they once were. I'm passionate about talking to others about all of the opportunities within the field to help with talent acquisition. Insurance isn't necessarily thought of as a "cool" and "exciting" career option but it certainly can be. I've made so many connections across the field and I love that it's constantly evolving every year. There is always something new up and coming to explore.

Tell us about something you enjoy outside of work, a cause you support, a hobby, family activity, or anything else that is important to you.

I am really into fitness and living a healthy lifestyle. I have competed in bench press competitions and multiple running events and have constant goals to become stronger.

In your opinion, what’s the best thing about being a CPCU Society member?
I would definitely say the people! It's so fun to connect with others that you may not usually have the opportunity to depending on your job role. I've met many people from multiple carriers and fields of interest and it's great to make those new relationships!

Tell us about yourself as a professional. Do you have a special interest or area of expertise,
unusual background or experience, or a topic or skill you’re working to get better at?

Early in my career, I handled non-standard auto claims. I moved on to fire claims and, eventually, homeowner liability claims before making the transition to Risk Management. Since 2018, I've worked in Healthcare Risk Management. In addition to the CPCU designation, I have attained AINS, ARM, AIC, RIMS-CRMP, and CPHRM. Currently, I am broadening my knowledge in many areas including risks specific to healthcare and captives.

Why are you passionate about working in insurance and/or risk management?

I've enjoyed my career journey. I started out in a call center doing customer service for a non-standard carrier, but even back then I feel like I learned something new every day. One of my favorite things about this industry is that you never have to be bored. There are so many avenues and so many professionals whose paths may have crossed mine even though they ended up in a totally different direction. I still feel as though I learn something new about insurance and risk management on a daily basis even after working in the industry nearly 20 years.

Outside of work, I enjoy being a theatre/dance mom and travelling with my daughters to different museums and other attractions.

In your opinion, what’s the best thing about being a CPCU Society member?
Networking with diverse members of the insurance and risk management community. Opportunities for development through volunteering with the Society.

Tell us about yourself as a professional. Do you have a special interest or area of expertise,
unusual background or experience, or a topic or skill you’re working to get better at?

I have almost 18 years of experience in IT. My area of expertise is QA and Program Management. I am currently working on improving my project management skills.

Why are you passionate about working in insurance and/or risk management?

I believe the insurance industry is doing great work for society through helping to mitigate risk. After the challenges we have all faced, our industry is helping society to come back to normal and stand on its own feet. Risk Management is a critical part of any work. Even in my own role, I feel the need to identify and mitigate risk, and whenever I am successful, it gives me immense pleasure.

Tell us about something you enjoy outside of work, a cause you support, a hobby, family activity, or anything else that is important to you.

Whenever I am stressed out, I love cooking and eating food. I am big time foodie and love having a glass of wine with my meal. I also love to go out with family and spend quality time with them.

In your opinion, what’s the best thing about being a CPCU Society member?
I believe CPCU Society Members are the brightest of the bright in the insurance world, and sharing industry knowledge with the best provides a great sense of achievement and pride. For this reason, I believe being a CPCU Society member offers a tremendous amount of benefits that money can’t buy.

Tell us about yourself as a professional. Do you have a special interest or area of expertise,
unusual background or experience, or a topic or skill you’re working to get better at?

As a professional, I have a passion for learning as much industry knowledge as I can. This field is so diverse, complex, fascinating, and important. I am a second generation insurance professional. My mom has been in insurance since 1978, and we currently work in the same department. I have no idea what my future holds - there is so much to explore, but I definitely want to learn more about data analysis. I think that is the cornerstone of the industry changes we are currently a part of. I am also passionate about research (then again, I was an English major,) and I thrive on being a resource for people who need help just like all the people that I rely on to be a resource for me. I ultimately hope that I get the chance to contribute to this industry in more ways than one.

Why are you passionate about working in insurance and/or risk management?

My passion for insurance actually came from my first insurance job as a sales agent in Florida. As I studied for my 2-20 license, I suddenly realized this material was more complex than anything I'd studied in a very long time. It was then that I realized how many layers there were, and how many scenarios there could be in just this one course I took. As my understanding of Insurance has grown, so has my yearning for everyone to also have a better understanding of how their money is being put to work and why their coverages work how they do. Ultimately, insurance is about being there in the darkest moments of someone's life. I survived Category 5 Hurricane Michael in 2018, and began my insurance journey as a result. Now, I am in a role where my peers share with me stories about making a difference in someone's life, just by doing our job.

Tell us about something you enjoy outside of work, a cause you support, a hobby, family activity, or anything else that is important to you.

I have to mention my 15 year old cat, Floyd. I've had him since he was a tiny kitten and he's my best bud. Before my CPCU journey, I read a lot and liked to build LEGOs, but I don't do much outside of work anymore, since I am still pursuing new designations and new knowledge. I'm also passionate about mental health because I think taking the steps to tend to myself is what led me to pick back up and finish earning my CPCU. In return, the designation led me to people who helped me believe in myself in ways I never did before. I feel like a brand new person now that I have learned how to take care of myself. I've also grown more confident in speaking out against systemic injustices and other things I never felt I was confident or capable enough to do. In such a fast-paced industry, it's easy to forget that not only do we deserve to feel our best, but those around us deserve the best version of ourselves.

In your opinion, what’s the best thing about being a CPCU Society member?
Hands down the people and the relationships. I didn't have many close connections and lived a pretty solitary life before I joined the Society. I chose my mentor, who became my rock and helped me build my network, and have been so fortunate to meet many talented and impressive people so early in my career. I am grateful for these relationships because I no longer feel alone. Rather, I feel supported, appreciated, and like I belong to something bigger than myself.

Tell us about yourself as a professional. Do you have a special interest or area of expertise,
unusual background or experience, or a topic or skill you’re working to get better at?

Like many people I've met in the industry, I didn't realize insurance would be a career that I would enjoy until I started.  After graduating from the University of Tennessee (Go Vols!) with a degree in accounting and struggling to find a role I enjoyed that also let me apply my degree, I turned to Google for help.  After searching for various versions of "jobs like accounting but not boring", I found my calling in underwriting.  I was fortunately able to find a role at a nearby national brokerage and began my journey in insurance.  After several years of learning the ropes and working with more complex accounts, I took the leap into the carrier side and joined Employers as a program underwriter where I completed my CPCU and ARe. I then decided that I wanted to make a bigger impact, so I took a chance with a small but passionate insurtech startup out of Denver, CO - Pie Insurance.  The last four years have been a whirlwind as our small team of 29 has grown to over 400 pie-oneers serving tens of thousands of customers nationwide.

Why are you passionate about working in insurance and/or risk management?

Insurance is a fascinating industry that is changing very quickly as technology is better leveraged to provide improved efficiency, enhanced analytics, and a more tailored customer experience.

Tell us about something you enjoy outside of work, a cause you support, a hobby, family activity, or anything else that is important to you.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my wife and son as we explore Colorado and beyond.  When not exploring, I enjoy soccer, running and playing board games. I am also a strong supporter of St Jude's Children's Research Hospital - my parents both worked there when I was growing up and it is an incredible place.

In your opinion, what’s the best thing about being a CPCU Society member?
Being a part of the CPCU Society is a great way to network with other like-minded professionals and continue to learn and grow through the many continuing education opportunities available.

I started in the insurance business in 2015, so a late bloomer so to speak in the insurance world. I held a variety of roles in my adult life, mostly in automotive billing or finance roles. I worked for a small home heating company prior to finding my niche in insurance. I was hired as a billing representative at the carrier I currently work for and quickly transitioned into our service center.

Why are you passionate about working in insurance and/or risk management?

I am passionate about working in insurance because of the ever changing nature of the business. Advances in technology and other external forces drive insurance professionals to consistently exercise a high level of agility and find solutions to continue to be competitive in the market and provide the best client experience possible.

Tell us about yourself as a professional. Do you have a special interest or area of expertise,
unusual background or experience, or a topic or skill you’re working to get better at?

Long before my career as an insurance professional I was a construction laborer. I was not part of a union and there was no formal apprenticeship. I had minimal safety training and even less oversight. When I first started working, my assignment was to dig holes for five years. Eventually I accepted a job as a roofing mechanic, which presented a whole new set of challenges. For the next three years I spent the majority of my workday navigating hazardous jobsites located on flat and steep-pitched rooftops, often 10+ stories high. During my tenure as a tradesman, I was provided a raw, unfiltered look into the life of a construction worker, and gained valuable insight into the challenges and who was most affected by them. I also saw firsthand how external pressure, such as schedule demands, financial implications, and politics can impact a jobsite climate and influence a worker’s decision-making. In the summer of 2014, I sustained a work-related injury, and my supervisor strongly encouraged me to avoid any mention of work at the hospital. I complied. At the time, I was unaware of the resources available to me as an injured worker, and as a result, I did not file a worker’s compensation claim. After several weeks of rehabilitation, I returned to work with the same employer in a new position assisting with sales and estimates. However, shortly after my accident, I began searching for a different role altogether and applied to several insurance companies. I accepted a job as a licensed worker’s compensation claims adjuster. Over the course of my insurance career, I have worked as an adjuster and investigator, an underwriting specialist, and most recently, as a risk control consultant in the construction division.

Why are you passionate about working in insurance and/or risk management?
In my current role, although I service policyholders through the lens of an insurance professional, I still consider myself an advocate for worker’s safety and wellbeing. I use my experiences to gain the trust of trade workers, market partners, and executive members alike. The knowledge and experiences of my past career serve as constant sources of motivation and allow me to connect with a community of workers that I still identify with, in an industry that continues to fascinate me. I am fortunate to have completed my CPCU courses. With each designation I pursue, in conjunction with real life experience, I am granted a different perspective on insurance, risk, and policyholder impact. I use my different vantage points, including my current and prior roles, to improve my position and overall effectiveness during my client focused service work.

Tell us about something you enjoy outside of work, a cause you support, a hobby, family activity,

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my fiancée. We love to travel, cook, ride bicycles, and watch professional boxing together. I am grateful for my life experiences and my health, both physical and spiritual. I am also a proud New Yorker and believe that there is no place in the world like New York City.

In your opinion, what’s the best thing about being a CPCU Society member?
I think the best thing about the CPCU Society is the excitement. I recently joined the Society in June 2022 and will be attending In2Risk in San Francisco. I am eager to network with other CPCUs and attend the educational sessions. Continuous improvement is a lifestyle!

Tell us about yourself as a professional. Do you have a special interest or area of expertise,
unusual background or experience, or a topic or skill you’re working to get better at?

As a professional in Talent Development, I seek to empower up and coming individuals to pursue a career in insurance. I started off as a Personal Lines producer in a Contact Center, worked my way up through the ranks to supervision. This is when my "aha moment" struck. Careers in insurance can be so much more than just sales and answering phones. I pivoted about 11 years into my insurance career into something that combines my passion of life-long learning and desire to develop that next generation.

Why are you passionate about working in insurance and/or risk management?
I'm passionate about insurance and risk management because it's something that everyone needs to be cognizant of, but most are not. I take pride in mentoring the future leaders of the industry and encouraging them to coach up their teams to give them the best opportunities to succeed. Insurance is more than just a job, it's something that is a part of daily life. By being a leader in this industry, you have the unique opportunity to enlighten others on important aspects of their life, while becoming a respected member of the community.

Tell us about something you enjoy outside of work, a cause you support, a hobby, family activity,

I am a member of an all-women non-profit volunteer organization in Gloucester County, New Jersey called the Gloucester County Vixens. Every year our 80+ members vote on a local charity to raise money for. This year it is on behalf of Bianca's Kids. We also encourage teamwork, branding, and networking by participating in the Independence Dragon Boat Regatta.

In your opinion, what’s the best thing about being a CPCU Society member?

The networking! It's amazing being around like-minded individuals who share a passion for the industry!

The events! I've gone to Leadership Summit twice and have taken back great information.

The best thing about being part of the CPCU Society is the people. Everyone on staff at the Institutes as well as the other members of the Society are wonderful individuals that make up this incredible community.

I love data and initially pursued a career in insurance to be an actuary. I later pivoted to product management/development and worked at vendors that support carriers. I always enjoyed sharing my insurance expertise with the IT and data professionals to deliver solutions. In my current role, I lead teams of data engineers that refine business insurance data for our partners. I am excited to continue grow in this space within the P/C insurance industry.

Why are you passionate about working in insurance and/or risk management?
I love this industry because there are so many facets you can explore. I also love that at its core, the industry is about protecting members of our communities and making them whole when a loss does happen.
